How EPT works — and why it lifts your band
The one idea
EPT is a coach, not a score machine. It covers all four skills — Speaking, Writing, Reading, Listening — and its job is to find the exact thing holding your band back, then train it until it lifts. You don't win by doing more questions. You win by fixing the right weakness, and coming back to watch it move.
How it works — the loop
Every skill runs the same loop. Here it is in Speaking — our specialty, and where most people lose the band:
- Free check — speak all three parts once (about 10 minutes).
- See your gap — a score for each skill (pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, grammar), plus which part is holding you back — usually Part 3.
- Get your plan — tell us your exam date and target band, and you get a weekly plan that spends most of its time on your weak part.
- Plan before you speak (Part 3) — for each question, jot your own four points: your answer → why → example → the other side. Then say it in your own words.
- Drill and get coached — record, and instead of just a number you get “fix this next” — the exact thing to change. Run the same question until it flows.
- Re-check — come back, watch your score climb, and your plan updates itself.
When your exam is near, run a full mock exam — all three parts, timed like the real thing — so exam day feels familiar, not new.
The other three skills run the same way. Writing: build your Task 1 and Task 2 answers move by move, with feedback on your own sentences. Reading and Listening: learn the strategy for each question type, then drill with a real answer key — so your accuracy there is exact, not estimated.
Why this raises your band — the logic, not just hope
- *We find the right thing to fix.* Most tools give one number. We score every part separately and name your gap, so you stop spending time on what's already fine.
- You practice all three parts — deepest on Part 3. Part 1 and 2 are a quick warm-up; Part 3 — the discussion — is what separates 6.5 from 7+, and most apps ignore it. So that's where we go hardest, training the reasoning: your answer → why → example → the other side. Adding the other side is the single move that lifts Part 3 past 6.5.
- Your own life, so it sounds like you. Examiners are trained to catch memorized answers and take points off. Your answers come from your real life, so they sound natural — and are never penalized for sounding rehearsed. (You set up a few short life stories once — your ready examples for Part 1 and 2.)
- One page to carry, not 60 to memorize. Your answer structure, the key phrases, and your own life blocks all fit on a single printable cheat sheet — study it, and take it to the exam waiting room. You internalize one small kernel, never 60 canned answers.
- Repetition that builds real fluency. You run the same question again and again until it flows. That is how speaking actually improves — not by memorizing a script.
- Honest by design. Every band is an AI estimate (the real exam is scored by a human examiner). So don't chase the exact number — trust the two things you can trust: which part is your gap, and whether it is going up over time.
Three rules to get the most out of it
- Speak it, don't memorize it. Rehearse your ideas out loud so they sound like you.
- The number is a guide, not a grade. What matters is your gap and your progress.
- It's a loop. Come back. The value adds up over time.
